Good day on the Chara 16.07.06

Nice bright day, than more than a little rough in the morning. Calmed down nicely in the afternoon, with a pleasant breeze to cool us down (slightly).

The doggies kept us entertained most of the day, with a decent number of strap conger showing. I actually caught my first ever conger, a beast of 3lbs!!! Maybe a slightly larger one is due next time.

Although much of the day was spent retrieving doggies, we did eventually bring in a small (5lb) thornie. To top it off, my fishing buddy managed a 16lb smoothhound on his last cast and the largest fish of the day award (a cigarette). Slightly dissapointed by the single smoothhound, as the skipper said he'd had around 9 the same size at the same mark the previous day.

Location was out of Penarth, and not even past Sully Island.

Re: Good day on the Chara 16.07.06

lol

Went again today and had a cracker (went the week before, and the week before etc etc). Went to "conger alley" (between Penarth Pier and Sully Island, 2-3 miles out and off a ledge) and scored a shedload of congers suprisingly enough.

I also managed to add a couple of Bull Huss to my species tally :)

And my fishing buddy managed to a) lose the biggest conger of the day by practicing juggling skills instead of pulling my trace inside the boat with the fish laughing at us 2) lose 2 large fish with snap-offs because of inferior line on his rod 3) not pay attention to the first 2 snap offs and lose a HUGE (40lb+ fish for sure, the rod was in half!!!) because of poor quality mono.

It was a seriously good day with the exception of my fishing-buddy's juggling antics

For those who are interested... Pete DID leave the cabin on a number of occasions and he DID actually smile once or twice. Fair do's, it was a good day. Anyways, I like Pete :P

For those who are trying for the conger in the BC, the squid on its own was a bit poor today, but large mackerel baits tipped with squiddies strips seemed to do the trick.

GL all.
