Barry Pier Saturday Evening

Am I likely to catch much fishing from Barry old harbour tommorow evening (2 hours before/3 hours after)?

High tide is just over 10m at 5pm.

I'm going to be using squid/mackrel and I'm hoping that a few Ray's might drift into the mud/sandbanks in the area.

I've seen a few comments about fishing Cold Knap in the forum and was wondering what my chances would be off the pier?

Cheers chaps :)

Re: Barry Pier Saturday Evening

Well, I fished off the 'Breakwater Pier' with my mate and didn't have a bite in the 5 hours we spent there.

Bait we used was squid, mackrel and crab.

Was chatting to one of the locals, and he said that the best bait for the area was worm and there are hordes of small flatties that come in to feed. In fairness, he only had the one fish and stated it was the quietest day he could recall. Oh, he also had a codling in his bag given to him by someone fishing off Cold Knap at low tide.

Next time, I'll bring some worm and give the flatties a proper test.

Would you recommend rag or lug for flatties?

Re: Barry Pier Saturday Evening

Well, I'm going fishing at breakwater pier again tonight. 9.2m tide at 10pm.

Taking some worm and sandeel, and I'll see how it goes.

If any of you fancy coming along and joining me, you are more than welcome.

(would still like to know if rag or lug is better for flatties though!)

EDIT: Gone and bought some frozen black lug now... time to see how that goes.
