Exclamation Novice (where to go)

Hello to everyone..
I used to go fishing but had to give it up a few years ago after a accident, 11:5lb Bass best fish so far. Still got a beachcaster and a bass rod and just bought a pair of Abu 5500ce. Looking for someone to take the levelwind off one of them??
The problem I have is my 14yr Daughter wants to go fishing, no prob's there but and a big but where can I take her to catch some Mackerel or other (quite easy to catch) fish? Don't want her to lose intrest straight away (kids nower days no attention span unless computer orientated)
Don't mind travelling that far down around the Gower Rhossili but I can't walk very far, Worms Head no chance.
So got to be pretty close to a road.
Any ideas please, been looking thru the post's most seem a long walk.
Also thinking of a boat trip couple of hours first to see if she likes it, so looking for a skipper who won't mind a novice on board. Any come to mind Cardiff or Swansea Area.
Thanks anyway WMOTV

Re: Novice (where to go)

Wmotv For Charter Boats In Swansea You Cant Go Wrong With Mark Of 'blue Thunder' Top Bloke Give Him A Call, Aint Got His Number Off Hand But Should Be Easy To Find On The Net.
In Cardiff I Personally Use To Use Paul From 'benjoma' Again Another Top Bloke. However I Believe There Is A Charter Skipper Who Uses These Forums So Look Him Up Sure He Can Help You Out.
A Good Place For A Good Variety Of Fish Is Oxwich Bay Down The Gower Got A Few Surprises Down There In The Past!!!!
But Failing That Mumbles Pier Can Be Productive As Well.
Not Too Sure Further Up The Coast Past Ogmore Most Of M Fishing Is Done In The Swansea Area.
Hope That Helps.
Alan

Re: Novice (where to go)

Thanks Yipo I'll give Blue Thunder a ring later on thanks, about Oxwich Bay is it a long way to walk and what type of ground are you fishing over, is it a safe place to fish?? to think I used to walk to Sker no problems.
Friend said about a little island down by the mumbles, supposed to be catching nice Bass there last week with lures so might give that ago.
Right lets go find the number for Blue Thunder.
Sorry to ask a Q again but are there any charter boats still working out of Porthcawl I can remember Our Sonia and another one the skipper was Ted Ducker if I remember right, but that was years ago.
Anyway thanks WMOTV

Re: Novice (where to go)

Mumbles island where the light house is, is very good pal but you do have to stay over for one tide really!! been over a couple of time and gotta admit the bass fishing is good, but it is quite rough over so not too sure if it is suitable for you.
oxwich bay is predominately sand the part i fish is to the right of the car park on the rock ledges and then cast back onto the beach. it is a safe place to fish so no problems if you have any doubts to the rock ledges then just stay on the beach itself. the beach is only a few hundred yards from the car park so it is not too far too walk.
not too sure bout the boats in porthcawl anymore as you said there were a couple there but that was a few years back.

Re: Novice (where to go)

If you're looking for a boat you could try Penarth. Charter Skipper posts regularly on here and runs a boat out of Penarth, if he hasn't got any spaces he should be able to recommend someone else in the area.

Re: Novice (where to go)

started my boy off fishing on the west pier behind rogers tackle in the marina, usually lots of mackeral to keep the kids busy, not too bad a walk either. later on in the year i would suggest somewhere like the lougher river as there will be plenty of flounder to be caught. these fish are not more than twenty yards out normally, sometimes under your rodtip easy fishing and sometimes busy fishing to keep them occupied.

be carefull if you fish the far side of oxwich sands the rocks can be trecherous as i found out and fell ended up in hospital. i have found slade bay good for flatties but it is a bit of a walk. i would try mumbles pier first, i take my 10 year old daughter there
