Cool Oxwich Bay

Hi again from Mackerel mal.
As I have said I would keep you updated on my and the clubs progress.
We went to Oxwich bay for the first club double competition, (Sunday 07/03/10). Tide in @ 10:34, 6.3, Llanelli tide table. Rods in at 07:00 out at 12:00.)
We all met at 06:00 at the new lodge Gorseinon and arrived at around 07:00 at Oxwich Bay. To my surprise I had never been there before.
The sun was just coming up over the horizon and when I got out of my van I was amazed by the beautiful sunrise but horrified how cold it was. The wind blowing easterly to shore, (in your face as the saying goes.)
I picked my mark and off I went. Pretty much straight ahead from the the toilet block. (no I don't have a problem, it was where I parked the van.)
A few of the lads went onto the rocks to the right near the church and others to the left on the beach. One used his four by four and disappeared quite a way down the vast beach.
I fished the allotted hours with no luck. I was told that there had been a Bass of 16 inches and a small Flatt off the rocks. (confirmed when we met at the club after.)
on high tide wind surfers turned up and began surfing along the beach where I was fishing so be aware of this should you give it a try.
All in all a pretty unlucky time for me. It was so cold that my hands swelled up and I ended up trying to put my fingers on the hook and not the rag worms I had with me. Memo:- remember gloves next time!
A Note for all you anglers out there: The bass was caught on Mud rag and Mackerel. The Flat fish on mud rag.
I hope that you enjoined reading my report and look forward to your threads.
On the up side Oxwich bay is a beautiful place with a Hotel and church to the right of the beach. The sunrise was spectacular with clear skies and bright sunshine, however it was a freezing wind.
On the down side was the wind surfers. (apart from the pretty blond with an hour glass figure.)
The cold wind, but that was due to the time of year.
I enjoyed the day despite this and I am looking forward to the next event.
There is a cafe opposite the car park if you need a warm meal.
Thanks for reading and remember its not always about fishing but the company you are with and the beauty of the location. (If you believe that you are as unlucky as me.) The next event is at Ferryside.
Happy fishing.

Re: Oxwich Bay

hi mackerel mal any chance you could give me the date of ferryside event as my old girl has a caravan near by and would be interested in taking part as would some of the boys. I heard it's a good mark for flatties and the odd ray and maybe a few bass a bit skeptical about bass at this time though. And as for mud rag there's a great spot at kidwelly for digging easy to fill a small bucket in a matter of minutes. Anyway would love to take part what ever the weather CHEERS
