conger and rays what bait and where to fish plz help

hi all im new to the site and need some help i go fishing quite alot and mostle fish for bass in the summer and flat fish in the winter but i hear that conger and rays give a good fight and have some size too them, i live in llanelli and am looking to go fishing this weekend 18/19/12/09 and want to try for ray and conger i can travel from pemboke to porthcall. there will be 4 of us gowing and none of us know anythig about rays or conger like bait and rigs, where to fish, we where thinking squid,mackrel,large worm baits, i usualli fish the gower using a 2 or 3 hook rig with a 4-6oq wight but no conger or rays yet. any help on this would be grate as i dont want to go to a pot luck spot and catch a big 0 fish lol thanks jonny.

my set up for ray is simple
long pulley pennel rig made with 80lb body and 40lb snood with 3/0 or 4/0 hooks
ray bait squid or double squid , double sandeel or prawn in some area
conger like fish bait

i had conger from Burry Port Harbour Breakwater yrs ago

Best time for conger off the shore around this area tends to be oct/nov cuttle fish or unwashed squid tend to be the better baits as for ray there are not alot about other than odd fish, two marks I can think of is Porthcawl wall or sker rock best bait for ray would tend to be sandeel or squid sandeel wrap. As for snoods I would be looking at at least 80lb if not more on sker as sometimes spurdog will appear off that mark and make short work of any snoods under 80lb.

another area to try is the ogmore deeps...big rock ledge....don't fish on a 12m tide or more....or when there is a swell....too many people get washed off there.

witches point...very good for rays..another dangerous mark not to be fished in the same conditions as the deeps

for the rays use a pulley pennel or a long up and over rig baited with bluey or sandeel/squid or mackeral

another spot to try is monknash sand at LOW water on a big tide for small eyeds (this is safe)...most of the ray fishing is more productive after dark

porthcawl lighthouse wall is a good spot too casting out into the tide race, as long as you don't mind heights!!!! oh and again check for the swells which hit it and go over!!!
