Cod ? I went fishing yesterday off Mumbles, Swansea. and after speaking to a few other boats, no-one caught any cod!! Is it to early?? I dont mind catching tidy size whiting and a few other species, but it would be nice to catch a cod... Am i expecting to much at the moment?

Re: Cod ? Don't know about that area but there are quite a few about further up the Channel in the Newport area and on the other side with them being caught from shore and boat from what I've heard. Most people seem to be saying it is far better than last year but I'm new to this sea fishing business so don't know for sure.

Re: Cod ? GGF to help you next cod season the channel cod fishing starts earliest to the long range charter boats out from the North Devon ports then Penarth and Minehead gets a spate of early cod around November with generally lots of 2-5lb fish. Swansea being further west near the northern 'mouth' of the channel gets a distinctly later cod season. The new year through January is the best time here with occasional big cod (30lb+) being caught into February. Milford Haven also gets a run of codling within the haven (safe in all weather!) and whilst the average size is lower it offers an all-weather alternative and plenty of launch facilities! __________________ South Wales Angling Guide - Shore Angling in South Wales
