Bass porthmadog / harlech

Hi

Sorry to be a pain

I could do with help / advice on two counts:

1) I have tried in vain for 17 years with my two sons to catch a Bass - Never had any success - Never even seen one despite specialist Bass fishing trips etc

Can anyone recommend best place to try around Porthmadog / Harlech areas - Been there recently on a weeks break and the beaches look like the kind of place where the elusive bass might just hang out - also, any tips on getting one would be great.

2) Whilst on Harlech beach photographing sunset two nights ago - saw 2 x men laying nets the full width of the beach - (Shore to Sand Dunes) - asked what they were doing they said they were laying nets for Bass - (Very annoying for me after 17 years with a rod)

Are they allowed to do this at Harlech and if so why? - Should it be something I should report and if so - who to?

Any advice on both counts will be greatly appreciated and anyone who makes me look a hero to my two sons will be a star

Many thanks

BASSB4IDIE

Re: Bass porthmadog / harlech

with regards to the netting i would err on the cautious side and report it .Bass nurseries are protected by law as is illegall netting !
If you want a chance of a bass, head to your nearest pier or estuary mouth and fish with either a spinner or plug during the day or with a big bait at night

Re: Bass porthmadog / harlech

The Mawdach estuary is indeed a bass nursery but I don't know if it applies to the beach at Harlech. Never had much luck myself but I would recommend a chat at the tackle shop at Criccieth as this is always a good starting point. What a stunning part of the country to stand and not catch fish too ;)

Re: Bass porthmadog / harlech

Ah well, it's still a lovely place and the info is still relevant.

Right I am off to the southern end of Wales as I haven't been home in more than 6 months.
