Waiting to hear if anyone is going to arrange a meet for shore fishing for bass / cod - then maybe a few of us could meet up regularly. | Re: Newport Area Yes mate went down but got the tide times wrong and therefore fished on the lowest tide !! caught two faltties but none of the bass !! | Re: Newport Area hey tommy im planning a couple of sessions in the next few weeks! i plan to get down to oxwich church rocks. this is a rock mark but is basically just in the corner of the beach and offers plaice, flounders, bass, dabs, whiting, dogfish, gurnard. Believe it or not a strong SW gale leaves this mark sheltered coz its a lee beach and thats when big bass cruise around! So Im hoping it will blowup to be honest! Planning to target whiting and any late plaice on one rod and stick a peeler bait in close for the bass! And I also wanna do a small tide session in the loughor estuary just to see if the flounder are getting fat yet. Need to check the tides and will let you know the plans - oxwich will prob be the first venue.. |

| Re: Newport Area Juan, Id be well up for that mate - where is Oxwich Church Rocks then ? I have got a new fladen rod but to be honest Im not used to casting with a fixed spool and my attempts last week were poor to say the least. Assuming you dont mind me making us look plonkers Id be weel up for it. Ill bring a couple of rods with bait etc. I was hoping to get out soon and catch some whiting to take home and a decent bass before they dissappear. The Cod have started to come into the Channel, boats have been catching them this weekend up to 11lbs on whole squid. They were stuffed with crab! A good sign! Have heard of odd 2lb'ers coming from Rockingham (behind the Tanks at Avonmouth) so in the next couple of weeks after a few good blows they should start to hit the shores. 1 2lb'er caught in a match at Aust on Sunday Will be going out soon at night mid week, so will let you know when and where and maybe you could come over and have ago for a few hours.
