Well, managed to get the 10.00am lock. There were a couple of blokes in the lock on an Alaska who informed me that loads of cod were being taken from the North Cardiff but didnt know where it was. That was my chosen destination anyway and told them to follow me there. The weather wasnt what was forecast either. It was blowing NW but more like 15-16 mph rather than the 11-12 predicted. Now that doesnt make that much difference in a bigger boat but my little boat was lying broadside to the swell. I was sat on my fishing box and sliding from port to starborad and back again all sodding day. I was using Ragworm and squid with frozen black lug in a cocktail. I was there for about an hour or so with not even a sniff when other boats started to drop anchor all around me. Boats that i`d seen coming round from Barry and the Benjoma 2 with half a dozen anglers. Anyway. fished there till about 1.00pm without the need to change my bait once (I only did because it was washed out), and my neck was now whiplashed from the increasing swell. Moved back to my old favourite the Rannie. Dropped anchor where there were already a few boats in the shelter of the cliff.
More boats came around and dropped anchor including the charter boat NiCK-l-LOU. She must know where the fish are (I thought). Well I got the 4.15 lock back in. Not a bite all day. Not one bite and no need to change my bait even once. On my way back to the lock, the wind just dropped completely and the sea went like a mirror. That was my luck for the day, like I was being punished for going fishing or something and as soon as I finished the weather improved. Thanks for nothing !!! In the lock were the Benjoma 2, the NICK-I-LOU and a Predator 160. All of them were there displaying their catch for the day. At least a dozen on each of the charters and 5 on the Predator. Admittedly most were about 2-3lb and no more except for a couple about 6lb on the predator. Thats the first blank i`ve had this year and at a time when it seems you only have to drop a line over the side to catch a cod. Not so. They hated my ragworms and frozen blacks. I never did get to learn what the fish were taking that day. I did hear cuttlefish mentioned but I suspect lugworms were the favourite. Thats why I couldnt buy any, every other bu**er had `em!!!

Unlucky Andy. I have days when I think that the gods are against me, each side of me people are catching and my line does not twitch all day.

Better luck next time, and the catch will be so much sweeter after a blank.

unlucky andy ,you get days like that . what state of tide were you fishing over?. we were out sat fished from 3hrs before and21/2 hrs after and didnt have a bad day really.

Unlucky Andy sliding from side to side must have really P***ed you off because it would have for me.
When we were out the week before we were changing baits every 20 minutes

Watch out for those gully lug there as big as blacks but more of a grey green tint to them.one word will do (crap) they just don't have the iodene in them and wash out very quickly.
you will know when you got them.I wonder if anybody else on the site has seen them.
I know it's been quiet hard out there as I was talking to kk yesterday.
