Fishing today Got the 1.30pm lock out and headed up to the mid grounds - just fished till 5pm but kept very busy with mainly 3-4lb codling , lost a much better fish at the net,was fishing on my tod and must be out of practice with the bigger cod! The codling were every cast (two rods) for about two hours then the small whiting started showing and I decided to quit while I was ahead. Didn't even get to make a cup of tea! There was a fair bit of crap in the water but as my lines weren't out for long at a time it didn't get chance to build up. I heard one of the guys from Cardiff Bay club had a 18lb cod while I was out and along with the fish I lost it seems there are finally some bigger fish showing , early Saturday is looking favourite at the moment for the next trip and let's hope we all get a chance to be among them! Cheers Dave

Re: Fishing today Nice fishing Dave. Looks like i`ll be going out tomorrow after all. Weather is looking great. I wish I had the bottle to go out to the Mid grounds. But tomorrows weather is the sort of day I should be venturing out there (if I knew where it was). Even if I got there I wouldnt know where to fish. I gather the current is much stronger up that way. I`m happy to go to the North Cardiff which takes me about 10 mins. I would be interested to know how long it would take me to get out there doing 18-20 knots and is it fishable from a small boat? __________________ Andy. ------------------- Treat each day as your last, one day you`ll be right.

Re: Fishing today Hi Andy If the weathers settled it's no problem at all , better on the lower tides but you can sit behind the bank approx 1 mile East of Newport Deep buoy and fish the ebb very comfortably , will take you 30 - 40 mins from the lock at that speed and it fishes best the last 3 hours usually. I fished in the past in a shetland 535 and a Warrior 150 and other than wind against tide the place is fine. It's a good place for early Bass in April & May but summer is full of Doggies & Rays in the main. It's often easier to fish than Cardiff North as when the bank starts showing you are protected against any East or NE wind as well. Have a good un out tomorrow Dave
