| Monday 8th Jan Had a day off today and ventured out intop the channel for a couple of hours I knew the weather was closing in and I wouldnt have long out there and I was right. Got the 9.30 lock out and the 11.15 back in. Still, I only had a couple of worms left from fridays session to go with some squid I had in the freezer. The wind was blowing about 15mph SSW and it was chucking it down when I went out. Went down to the rannie and dropped anchor about halfway between the beach and the mid-Cardiff buoy. Fished for about an hour and caught a nice plump codling which weighed in at 3lb 6oz when I got home. Caught that on my second cast. The wind turned round further to the South and increased to about 20-25mph. The swell was now higher than my transom and the tops of the waves were starting to turn white. Time to turn turtle and head back in. Missed the 10.45 lock and had to tie up for half an hour for the next one. As the lock opened and spat me out the other side, the rain stopped , the wind dropped and the sky got brighter, Still, it was short lived and the wind turned to nearly gale force not long after. I was happy with my hour out. Just taken a couple of fillets round to my mums for her tea. Well chuffed. There seem to be loads of these codling in the 2-4lb range. But they sem to be just that bit further out and just out of range of the shore angler. I think we need a couple of cold snaps now just to bring them in range for you guys. Maybe the bigger ones will show inthe boats towards February when it gets colder __________________ Andy. ------------------- Treat each day as your last, one day you`ll be right. |

| Re: Monday 8th Jan Hi 'Keana' Talk about taking advantage of a two hour break in the weather - WELL DONE - and a good result as well. Hopefully, if their migratory and breeding grounds are not targeted commercially the semi-matured codling numbers reported this year will return next year in the same numbers, healthy and very very plump, to give a lot of sport and the selective fish for the table.
