| Long Introduction - Bass-Tard Hi All HAPPY NEW YEAR After logging onto this site daily for ages, I have finally registered. By name, I am sure nobody will recognise me? My background, I have owned two small fishing boats, a ‘John Dory’; and the luv of my life a ‘Day-Angler 19+’. Both were moored at Penarth Marina going back some 5+ years ago? You may remember my mate (part-owner), Steve Thomas (WIDGET), a small baldy rough looking guy ‘Salt of the Earth’. Both boats were called ‘Bass-Tard’; the latter ‘Day-Angler’ was stunning with a top speed of about 27 knots. Unfortunately all good things always seem to come to an end; Divorce and Solicitors took ‘her’ away. Anyway, life goes on, since then I have continued to hound the Bass in the summer months and the Cod throughout the winter. Plus, quite a number of annual Charter trips, across South and West Wales and further down South after the summer / autumn Bass. I have not held a rod for over 3-months now due to a serious ‘Calcaneous’ (heel-bone) fracture and just to pizz me off a little bit more I developed an injury related ‘blood-clot’. Although back in work, full physical recovery-time to walk, run and fish as normal is still about another 6-months (well in time to catch the summer Bass). This Forum was a daily ‘God-send’ being bed-bound for some 6-weeks – THANKS. THANKS Mum & Dad, my Daughter Abbi, (OK you as well, my partner Nicola – Just ‘Done Her’ – a bacon sandwich that is!) Hope I’ve got the names right having been out of the local Charter scene for years and that you are all still sailing - Lady Helen (Mike), Kobe (Groucho – “he used to scare me, don’t know why”), Benjoma (Paul), Chara (Pete), Leah James (Glyn). Unbeknown, thanks for all your advice, you turned relatively good anglers into bl**dy good anglers, we used to catch more fish than you!!!!! Penarth Marina / Barrage for ‘Lock-out’s and Lock-In’s Garry Evans, Colin, Richard for selling me more tackle than I can ever use in a life-time. Everyone else I know. REGRETS Being robbed of the ‘Bass-Tard’ Not yet buying another boat Busting my leg “Oh Yeah” - Breaking the nose of a yacht’y (NOT LOCAL), who in the lock-in said, “all fisherman are scum”. I didn’t realise such a small yacht could hold another 5 guys – “got a little bit of a hiding”. Shame their car didn’t start as they headed south at 8pm (I’ve still got the HT lead). Sorry to waffle on? – That’s my intro or should I say my life. |
