| Friday 30th Nov Found a little bit of a window in the weather on Friday and decided to head off out to sea in my little tub. Had to keep an eye on the weather as the forecast said storms approaching (I know it said saturday night, but they`ve been well wrong before). First thing friday morning, I went to my local supplier of cracking rag only to be told he`d sold out. Had to settle for ten quids worth of blow lug to go with the squid already in my freezer. Out through the lock at 11.30. Light sw wind and almost flat calm. I was skipping over the swell at 20 knots on my GPS and soon made the north Cardiff. Dropped anchor and out went the two rods. Sat back in the sunshine and waited for the first fish to attack my 4/0 pennels with a lovely helping of squid and lug on each. After about 20 mins still nothing so made myself a cup of coffee. These were realy devious tactics now, but it always works and true to form as soon as I sat down to drink it my downtider started nodding away. Up from the murkey depths came a small doggie. Next came a small codling about 2lb then a whiting to my uptider. That was about it then so about 13.00hrs with the wind getting up and the sea getting bigger, I moved over to the mid Cardiff to some slightly deeper water.First cast was a codling which tipped the scales at 3lb, then a conger at 9lb, then another codling at 3.5lb. All that happened within about 2 hours then the wind turned really nasty so decided to head back to base early. Shame because things were just starting to pick up. Oh for a bigger boat. I kept the two bigger codling and enjoyed my feast over the weekend just lightly dusted in flour and fried in butter. Everything else went back to fight another day. I think most boats are finding a few fish out there but it`s quite difficult. I`m glad to say i`m picking up a few because this time last year I was getting really frustrated. Everyone seemed to be catching except me. I havnt found any of the bigger cod yet though but theres still time. __________________ Andy. ------------------- Treat each day as your last, one day you`ll be right. |
