Hi, I usually fish Solent waters from my own 17 1/2 footer, and have always used Charter Boats from Penarth (but not yet Lady Jayne which i MUST put right!) Can anyone please advise where I can launch locally for Penarth area. Car isnt 4x4 btw. Many thanks. Stephen.

Quiet a few boat boys on the forum from Penarth so they should be along later to help you out

Re: small boat launch

Welcome to the forum, there are a few places to launch,Channel view leisure centre is inside the barrage, but has limited launch times and you need a key from the council i think, rhen you have Sully slipway, but personaly i wouldn`t leave my car or trailer un attended there, and there is alaso a slipway at Penarth, again you need a key available from the council. As Richard said there are loads of guys with smalll boats on here ,who will have much more detailed nfo......

Re: small boat launch

Nice to hear from you Stephen, welcome to the forum.
I have a small boat on a trailer too. I used to use Channel view slipway until I joined the Yacht club. Trouble is with channel view, like the Charter Skipper said, you are limited to times. You cant launch till 09.30 and this time of year you have to be back to hand in your pass at 16.15. That means you have to get the 15.45 lock back in to get there in time. Its a good facility but it does cut your fishing time and options. It costs £6 for the day and £5.10p deposit which you get back when you return your pass. Also like Mike said, the slipway at Sully has two barriers now. This was to stop the mindless jet skiers running riot there. Show the necessary 3rd party insurance details to the council, hand over £25 and they give you keys for the year which are renewed every March so you wont get very good value for money this time of year. And only use this facility if your prepared to have the missus come down with a new car and trailer for you after yours has been vandalised or stolen. The same applies for the Southern slipway at Penarth......if you can find somewhere to park up. I think Channel view is your best option....at least they have CCTV so they can see who nicked it!!!

Re: small boat launch

all sounds a bit of a hassle and i dont really want to walk home from Penarth to Hungerford. Maybe I'll stick to the charter boats for welsh Waters.
