| Nov 5th I thought i`d leave it a while and wait for the mad rush to end and let most of the boats go through the lock first. I left it till 10.30 and it was still like a car park in there. Once through the lock and out to sea, it was like a new marina. There were boats everywhere!!. Dropped anchor and immediately into a strap conger. I had 2 rods out uptide and downtide and for the next 2 hours I had a conger every cast on both rods. I was even bringing one in on one occasion and the other rod was having line stripped from it. When I brought that one in it turned out to be a 12pounder. Then nothing at slack water or for the first 2 hours of the flood. Then the congers started again for about an hour. Then a break in proceedings produced a codling about 3lb on my uptider. Then I was sat in the cabin having a cuppa when my downtider started twitching. This was not like the conger bites, this was different. Then as I was about to pick it up it took a dive. I heaved into it and staight away realised it wasnt a conger. It was coming in against a pretty strong flood tide as well. Into the net came this lovely 91/2 pounder. About half an hour later another codling surfaced until the point when I had to stop reeling because my leader was covered in weed and wouldnt go through the top guide. Needles to say, the fish jumped the hook. At that point I called it a day and motored back into the lock to find that it was packed again. That was at 4.15 and the end to a great days fishing. __________________ Andy. ------------------- Treat each day as your last, one day you`ll be right. |
