Night fishing

You will probably think I'm mad after my last post. However, once I have got my engine sorted I'm thinking of a night session on the boat.

Is there any tips? Is it worthwhile or should i stick to the daytime?

Re: Night fishing

night time produces bigger fish than day. use fairly big baits for a bigger smell.

Re: Night fishing

We fish quite a bit in the dark during the winter,as lots of anglers like it.It can make a differance to the fishing, depending on what you are fishing for.Rays definatly feed better at night .The colour of the water makes a differance, clear water can fish much better at night.

I don`t think it makes too much differance in The Bristol Channel, during the winter,as the water is so coloured anyway.Having said that we have had alot of decent double figure Cod on the evening trips....

Re: Night fishing

This may not make a lot of sense as it applies to fresh water in Canada but night fishing can be excellent.
If fishing from a boat try verticle jigging with a glow in the dark spoon just off bottom. Tipping the hooks with some sort of bait(worms, prawns, baitfish ect.) also helps.
Also charging up the glow in the dark spoon is best done with a camera flash.

Good Luck: Rick

Re: Night fishing

yes it make a lot of sense as over here we target alot of species after dark.
i too use a similar tactic when targeting carp with glow in the dark corn

Re: Night fishing

Although i`ve not done any boating in the dark yet, it definately makes a difference off the beach. Even though the channel is quite murkey anyway, the Cod do come out to play better in the dark....Big baits though.

Re: Night fishing

Hello mate, we fish as often as we can during the night as it always produces better fishing especially for the Cod.

Make sure you don't travel to fast as it can be difficult to see the rubbish floating towards you so make sure you have a "lookout".

make sure your lights are all working and carry spare bulbs and fuses.

Personally during night I always keep my eye out for boats coming into Cardiff Docks just in case they don't spot us, this has happened in daylight to us with the dredger,

WEAR LIFEJACKETS at least while your travelling.

if you fancy going out with a buddy boat give us a shout as like I said were out most weekends weather permitting.

The other thing that I like to do is check the tides to make sure there is going to be enough water at low tide to get back in should the weather get bad, although this is only on some of the bigger tides.

Oh and don't forget to pack your AUX
