| friday 15/9/06 aberthaw went out on the 10.30am lock and with the sea looking calm and the forecast giving 6 mph winds thought we were in for good day. steamed down to aberthaw only to be faced with the sea a bit lumpy going through the ranny.got to our mark and dropped the anchor,by this time the wind had got up to a bit more than 6mph ( forcasters got it wrong again) struggled to keep the boat steady at this point so we upt anchor and moved out in to deeper water to see if there was a bit more current. so to yhe fishing baits for the day were frozen lugworm, peeler crab, squid, sand eel and mackeral.first couple of bites were the inevitable doggies followed by a couple of strap conger. a couple of hours passed with the wind getting up a bit nore and with that the fish seemed to disappear.decided to go back to another of our marks just by cardiff mid.as soon as the hook went dpwn we were all into fish again 2 nice conger 9lb & 12lb and a baby tope about 12 inches.by this time the bait was almost gone apart from 3 whole squid, we all baited up with this and chucked out for the last time. my mate neil gets a bite and pulls in a conger about 5lb,then ian gets a bite with line pouring off his reel at a great speed of knots, after a couple of good runs pulled in a starry about 12lb,which i think is a bit unusual that far up the channel. after another hour decided to go back in. roll on the cod. plugger peter |

| Re: friday 15/9/06 aberthaw I went out to the same mark on the Emily Louise (out of Barry) yesterday. I actually lost count of the number of fish that were caught... Towards 20 conger, the heaviest being 21 and 23lbs respectively. 2 Thornies to about 6lb. 1 Smooth hound (toward 8lbs). Few dogfish. 4 good sized bull huss, double figures. And probably a few more that I've forgotten about. All in all, an excellent day. n.b. Tried 2 marks, the first produced primarily conger, the second near Aberthaw had more of a mixed bag and produced the huss and smoothie. |
