Whats the fishing like at the moment on Penarth Pier? Does anyone know the opening and closing times of the Pier on weekends?

Thumbs up Re: Penarth Pier, South Wales

Flippin` eck mate. Havnt fished the pier for about 25 years. Mainly because I didnt want to be tarred with the same brush as those yobs, who call themselves fishermen, who cut up bait on the seats leave their empty ragworm soaked newspapers all over the place........and because the fishing is pretty crappy. I think there is quite a bit of small stuff gets caught there particularly the whiting in the late autumn. There used to be some lovely sized whiting caught regulary around the 1 -2 pound mark. That was way back when though.
The pier is shut through the summer but I believe its re-opened now in September. I think it opens about 09.00 and shuts at dusk (whatever time that might be).

Re: Penarth Pier, South Wales

Fished there YEARS ago and it was mainly poor. Did find out that it is possible to catch countless whiting using very small hooks (8 - 12 coarse) and small baits. Maybe use them as bait for the inevitable bigger fish that never seemed to show. Haven't fished there any time in the last 15 years so it might have changed. Only tip I ever came across is the usual for piers, think where the food is and don't cast to the sterile horizon.
