Friday Night

Fished a few marks overnight hoping to re-produce last weeks results, wasn't going to badly to start, first cast produced a little bite which turned out to be the usual doggie, unhooked him and thourght bait looks ok so lobbed it back out. 10 min later decent bite and up popped a Bass of 6 1/2 - 7lb again, only downside was he spat the hook at me and sodded off, a small ray was the only other fish I could find. mate had and eel and a doggie, and another mate picked up a baby tope.

So not the best nights fishing but at least I had the chance to land another Bass, I'll get him this weekend on these cracking tides.

KK

Re: Friday Night

Shame about the bas but at least it shows there are some good ones in the channel.

Thats interesting that they are fishing hard on the bottom. Looks like I will be fishing at low tide which is around 19.28. Probably get the 17.00 hrs lock out (if I can finish work in time) and back in at 21.45 hrs. I guess high tide fishes better in these neap tides but it will be getting dusk by the time the tide turns, so who knows. Have you got any views on whether high tide or low tide fishes better?

Re: Friday Night

Depends, what mark you intend to fish, most Bass we have hooked recently have been just before high water as the tide slackens off (these being at dusk which is a big factor I guess). Unfortunetly the doggies get worse at the same time. with these slack tides fishing should be much better.

Just for info, the marker buoys are being moved this week ready for the dredging of the channel, started yesterday I believe.

always worth checking here for info.

Re: Friday Night

Thanks for the info KK. I`m going in and out more or less at low tide so I should be able to see the channel. Coming back in might be more of a problem but there should be a clear sky(ish). My boat only draws about a foot anyway.
I know Bass have been caught in the Rumney river near the boat club there, so I thought i`d give it a bash by the estuary just on the edge of the coral/mud near the buoy. After all if theres Bass in the river, they have to get in and out of there so i`m banking on them gorging on crabs and shrimps over the reefs on their way there. Thats the theory anyway....
I`ll let you know what happens.
