Harlech area any good? May well be going to Harlech with the wife and nippers for possibly a long weekend. The outlaws have a house up there so reasonably flexible as to when we go. Will be within staggering distance of the beach or driving distance of rest. My chosen weapons are spinners and plugs for bass or fly for.... well bass really. Close in mackerel or gar on fly sounds like fun and extremely unlikely too. Anyone out there know anything?

Well it was interesting. Decided to only do fly/spin so left all the other gear at home. Now might think this was a mistake, defining mistake as limiting your options through lack of them is indeed true. On the other hand if you want to commit to something , sometimes you have to force yourself to give it a decent shot. Hence the complete lack of any pictures of any fish. The only two I saw were in batter with me chips. Ho Hum!. Didn't fish Harlech beach itself, though did get sun burn , no really it does get that hot , even in North Wales. Fishing the next beach south (keep forgetting the name and can't be bothered looking at a map). Fished dead low to three hour flood on a number of days. main problem an inshore wind and lots of weed. No takes on fly, plug or spinner. On reflection , the lessons learned were . 1. Learn to cast a fly IN to the wind. 2. use a sinking line once the tide is more than 6 foot deep (I know, I know, it was stupid). 3. Try some redgills. Any other hints (other than taking up golf), much appreciated. Harlech is probably one of the best places in the world to go and chill out. VERY quiet and the local pub actually sold a decent pint of Brains, Heaven.

Well I reckon it's your choice how good a day you have. Barring the loss of a close friend or family member, every day has some good. Usually learn more when the fishing is hard, ok impossible, than when they climb up the rod, spit out the hook and jump in the keep net. Tight lines folks. ![]()
