english welsh grounds sat 1/7/ 06

hi chaps,
thinking of fishing here on sat, never fished here before can anyone offer any advice on what bait and tactics that could work here. will be fishing over high water, and also what species are we likely to catch.
any imfo will be appreciated.

Best thing is to take a good look at an admiralty chart of the area,there are loads of banks and drop offs,theres also lots of mud patches which dont fish that well except for flatties.... you really need to be carefull up there the tide screams thro even on smaller tide sizes.You have to start inshore and move out as the tide slackens.The Winter Cod can be super up there,we dont usually fish it summer time ,better fishing down west........

They are stretch across the channel seperating the Welsh and English shipping channels,lots of sandbanks,mixed ground and mud,a bit of a mine field to navigate thro.........

hi mike,
i take on board what you say about it being a bit of nightmare to navigate through.i was told that the bass were showing up there, not so sure now though, could you suggest a tidy mark for bass (might be a bit cheeky but hey if you dont ask).

Yes the Bass have been showing for a few weeks now,they tend to congregate to spawn,the English side is good,a little bit down channel from Portishead,you can usually find them in the shallows around the sand banks in the disturbed water.Just be a bit carefull and have good study of the chart.A bit further up the channel theres a small island in mid channel ,you`ll see the boats there,it usually produces some nice fish.

Small tide you can drift off the Nash, again be carefull ,best to keep someone watchin the drift ,ready to get you out if it gets a bit hairy !!!...Its pretty rough too,so take plenty of red gills/shads....Again you`ll see the big boats drifting there,just remember you`ll drift much faster in a small boat.
