| Anglesey jaunt well back from my hectic few days away. meet up with my mate sniggy at the caravan we had hired for the hols, then started it off by doing some shopping in Holyhead's Tesco's for the basic needs eggs bacon and beer. we were up and about early Sat morn, which was a pleasant one with bright sunshine just enough breeze, that showed the boat trip was a goer. meet up with old and new m8s and chewed the fat while we waited for our skipper to take us on out to do battle. this was my first time of sailing from this port but the scenery is stunning,we started out just past south stack were you have a lighthouse and they tell me you can visit but boy those steps up the cliffs is for marines to train on. We drifted the area to get some macky, which soon had us all into them and I was lucky enough also to land a pollock around 3.5 lbs a nice start. as we had a pool on the heaviest fish caught on the day that put me in front! (lol). next move was to try for the huss. which had been giving some sport earlier in the week.and this was the case as most of us caught and the best went over 12lbs. couple of the lads started to feel seasick, but I cheered them up with the old ragworm dangle from the nose trick!! the skipper moved us around a fair bit doing his best to get us on the fish. which I think only gave us one bit of the tide when nothing was being caught but was a good time to have a brew and a chat. the next mark we went gave a good variety from, codling,Wrasse, pollock, macky, dogs, huss, etc.and three seagulls that took any bait that was not quick enough to sink. all though were unhooked safely and set free. lucky for us the weather held!but out towards Ireland you could see a front building, but the idea was to finnish the day off trying for tope.so we set sail and steamed out to a mark that is known to hold some good fish. we arrived and soon the rods got a few nods, but not from tope but smoothy's and although none large just added to the day. reels were in free spool with the clicker on and was not long before one telltale sound was heard, then with the rod arched and contact made the first tope was being played a baby one around 12 lbs. other smoothy's and huss were landed and at times all the boat was busy into fish. but the best of the day was a male tope that weighed out at just over 35 lbs, that's a big male tope that and one to remember more so as this was the anglers first boat trip!!!! and one that also netted him £40.just mu luck. ah well all good things and all that, but was an enjoyable day and a repeat must do again. had a bit of fun on the way back in, a floating gin palace had lost power so we went to it's aid lucky though they where ok and for good measure we had on board my m8 who's the helmsman of the T/Bay lifeboat so they were in good hands if needed. So after a early start a full day at sea then a Chinese meal two or so lagers, we hit the sack around ten as we had a meet the next day on the Holyhead breakwater nothing serious just a say hello too the new and old members of the fishing4u forum. I was really chuffed as I managed to fish the outside of the break and near enough get my rigs back and catch!! for those that don't know this mark, the outside is a graveyard for tackle but can offer you some great fishing if you have the balls to fish it. we stayed till around midday but my m8 wanted to take a trip to Malc's Tackle shop at beaumaris,he had some cash to spend and wanted a new Penn mag which Malc shoves out at around £90.So we set off on the 1/2 hr drive across the Isle, gets to malc's who is in deep confab with another customer, you learn over time if shopping there you don't butt in! so we hovered, we looked, and we tried to find what was wanted. now in this shop that's not easy has Malc seems to leave stuff in the cardboard boxes he gets his stuff delivered in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.it's wall the wall honest. at last the we get the chance,Er Malc how much for a mag? well to you sniggy £90!great I'll have one.Sorry Sniggy sold out but leave your order and I'll save you one from the next batch!!!when's that then Malc?ho 6 weeks or so! I don't get that many in.Ok save me one then!ok.Now while I' am here I also want a UGLYSTICK CONGER ROD YOU KNOW IT'S AROUND 7.5 FEET.Yep I know the one Snigs, but sorry I don't stock that rod! but I can get you one!takes around 6 weeks. we left empty handed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!apart from some bits and bobs the rest of the time was spent looking at new marks, some just me and sniggy exploring and some with a couple of the local lads giving us the lowdown and boy how bloody lucky they are to live around such a place.I will tempt you with a bass beach that we were shown we had a hour of the flood fishing it. but had to cut the trip short as our guide's mrs rang him to say she was locked out!from this mark you have the chance to catch big bass, best they know of this year up to now 15lbs.where is this beach you ask!ho not far from Holyhead it's near sandy bay. LOL. well I enjoyed my stay the fishing and the company,so it was with a bit of a sad heart I drove back down the A55 on my return home but I' am back again in July (YES). ![]() __________________ H. |
