| Bristol Channel,Penarth 14 May,smoothound season begins. A dull,overcast day,with fairly big ground swells made for a fairly uncomfortable day on the channel.Spirits were lifted with this years first Smoothounds,thornback and Blonde rays,a stray cod,rockling and several Bull Huss and countless doggies.Baits on the day,crab,worm,squid and mackerel.Tackle....Pennel rigs and 8oz geminis on simple running ledgers Here`s the only disadvantage to a Pennel rig !!, you can catch doggies two at a time.  First Smoothie of the year,a starry, just a shade over 8lb  Another late Cod of 3lb...  Thornback to 8 lb  10lb Blonde Ray......(new camera needed i think!!!)      |
