Swansea cod report - 1st Feb

Well chaps me, my old man and Shads ventured down to Swansea yesterday for our first trip out in our new boat - arvor 215.

Usually having our boat in Exmouth and having to row out, we found it a pleasure being able to simply walk along the pontoon and board our boat without getting wet and carrying loads of gear !!

The first test was the two locks - never done this before but after some good advice from the lock staff and good conversation on our VHF we made it through both locks and off to sea for the first in Swansea. Without knowing the area and with a slight mist we decided head straigh offshore and head for the SWIGG bouy that I had been told about by a local skipper.

Midday arrived and we chucked out our first baits of the day - lug, lug and more lug with squid and makeral. An hour past and it was dead quiet except for radio 1 in the cabin, then the first bite of the day !!

To cut a long story short - we ended up boating 14 fish - unfortunately none of them were the elusive cod but mainly whiting ( of which one came home for tea ) and two dogs !! Not a bad day really once they started feeding and whilst the cod was dissappointing the regular fish were great !

The final hurdle was the journey home - back on low water, up the estuary and then through the two locks - both bloody good fun. Had a good chat to another boat who had caught bugger all - so we were quite chuffed really !! back onto the pontoon and straight into the car - time to warm up !!

All in all a great day, wicked boat, and now Ive been given some further info. on local marks I reckon another trip is due in a couple of weeks !!

Re: Swansea cod report - 1st Feb

Usually people do nothing but moan about them but they were a welcome site at the start yesterday !!

Cant wait to get another day off and head out for some cod if we can find them - fair to you charter skippers cause you know your areas bloody well and work pretty hard to find good marks. A lot people think its dead easy but I reckon you boys ( if your a good skip ) are well worth the money for trips !!

Re: Swansea cod report - 1st Feb

Smoothie,

When do you want to have a go at them then ........... Boat is due out of the water when we decide to take her to Exmouth so if the bream etc. are around before the end of April we could get after them plus a few smoothies and bass !!!
