Any fish at the Ranny?

I`ve just spent four hours fishing off the beach at the Ranny in Penarth. I fished the last three hours of the flood and an hour of the ebb. I had 5 quids worth of rag with me and threw half a dozen of those away at the end. I was using about 4 or 5 rag per cast on a 3/0 pennell/pulley rig.Baits were coming back almost untouched. I spoke to a few anglers on the beach with the same responses....nothing doing. One of them had fished the tide right in from low water and only had 4 knocks. One bloke reckons he had a Codling of 4.5lb there last night on lug/rag cocktails.
At least I didnt blank tonight anyway. A codling about the size of my hand committed Hari Kari on my last cast.

Re: Any fish at the Ranny?

Nice one lunker, sorry about the blank session and sorry I refered to you as `one of those anglers` but I couldnt remember what your user name was. That bloke that came down after you had left (the one with the Cod the night before) had just had a nibble as I was leaving. The cod he caught the night before was right on the top of the tide too so it looks like the ebb might be favourite at the moment.

I havnt heard any reports of any beaches doing particularly well around here Richard. The Ranny seems to be the hot spot at the moment, if you can call it that. The Cardiff foreshore is usually quite sound though and produces codling, conger and whiting but I usually confine myself to the Ranny or St Marys Well Bay at lavernock as I only live around the corner from those venues. I was at Lavernock a week or two ago at low tide and fished into a strong Southerly wind. Needless to say I blanked on that day but there were a couple fishing on the Pole end of Sully Island too. That might be worth a bash. 1`d be interested to know if anyone out there has any reports to offer on it.

Beano

Re: Any fish at the Ranny?

Hope the sprats have all gone by the time you go out. That might give us all a chance to get into some decent fish. Perhaps these small things we`re catching at the moment will have gorged themselves on them by then and come back all nice and fat. I went out for an evening session with Mike on the Lady Helen back in july. Unfortunately the channel was alive with doggies then. Marvellous isnt it....if its not doggies its sprats spoiling the fishing.
