Cod in the Fog !!!!

After a couple of unproductive trips on Saturday,Sunday morning brought thick fog and zero viasility, together with mirror flat sea .We locked out and slowly eased our way thro the other boats dotted around in the fog, some without radar seemed to be going round in circles.Sprats still showing on the sounder, didnt boad well, but a pleasant day unfolded with a good catch of 2-3lb codling and lots of tiny codling (they are too small to swallow the sprats).all the bigger fish coughed up sprats on the boat, confirming the little silver sods are still down there......

We were greated with thick fog

Some of the other Codling on the day

Greedy small Codling Take baits bigger than themselves...John (Lazy Hooker ) christening his new "suveran" with this Tiddler

Re: Cod in the Fog !!!!

Mike,

Good reports and very interesting as ever - do you tend to keep the cod if they are below the 5LB mark or do you have a limit on keeping numbers etc ?

Just interested really.

To be honest Tom,the anglers pay good money to come fishing,so i let them decide what they keep providing they are above minimum size. the days of 50 fish in a trip are long gone,so its very rare loads of fish are killed in one day, besides i try not to encoursage lilling large numbers of fish..I do promote Conservation, and encourage people to keep a couple of fish and return the rest, especially 10lb plus fish, which size for size have less meat on them compared to 6lb fish, and are good breeding stock.I activley encourage my anglers to have a picture done and release the fish, and if that doesn`t encourage them, sugesting they are related to a fish murdering spanish trawler skipper usually does the trick !!!
