Bristol channel /Lady helen 18/09/05

A promise of a cracking day in the channel, calm seas and sunshine forecast. At least it was calm, but truely felt like winter and the Cod are on the way, fairly bright all the same.

Spent the day fishing in the Barry area, fairly close in due to the huge 13.6 metre tide, which meant offshore was out of the question.Today saw the return of the dogfish in reasonable numbers for the first time in a while. The Dogfish fishing action was supplemented with a good few thornback rays, and Congers to 20lb,and the tinyest Poor Cod just for good measure.Had hoped to bag an early Cod or 2 ,but that was not to be.

Uptide gear with 8oz gemni`s were the order of the day, long pennel rigs and a variaty of baits ,including Squid,Mackerel ,Peeler and both lug and rag.The worm in anticipation of an early Cod.

Best Conger of the day 20lb

A couple of the Thornbacks

And a tiny Poor Cod
