Baits will be squid / ragworm and crab

Looking at going mon/tue/wed and if anyone fancies a fish more than welcome

Re: The Knap beach Barry South Wales

See my report under the Aberthaw thread. I blanked on Saturday night, not even a bite, and didn't see anyone else catching. It's the first time I've fished there though and I've heard it usually fishes well. Might be worth a PM to JuanPablo as he recommended it to me.

I fished rag, crab and sandeel hoping for smuts, bass or flatties. As an alternative, the ray fishing has apparently been quite good at St. Brides lighthouse (loads of strap conger being caught too) or low tide at Aberthaw for smoothies and possibly bass.

I still don't think there are any fish in the sea off Wales myself though ;-)

Re: The Knap beach Barry South Wales

Well i`m glad to report there are fish in the sea of South Wales.Best chance for the rays from the beach are Witches point ,Ogmore deeps over high water on small tides.Monknash & Stout Point over low water is good if you`re brave enough for the trip over the terrain in the dark which is rough to say the least !!! The rewards can be great tho ,blondes to 20lb ,small eyed`s to 14lb plus on squid & sandeel coctails.Bass and Smoothies at Aberthaw over low water..

As for cold Knap, stick to the far end towards Porthkery, plenty of doggies showin a couple of hundred yards offshore from the boat so they should be there on the beach too!.

Re: The Knap beach Barry South Wales

Typical, I was going to fish the Porthkerry side but noticed all the other anglers were more to the Barry side and assumed that was the best area!!! Guess they were just too lazy to walk any further from the car park (free parking which is nice), that said, earlier in the day you can park right up the Porthkerry end.

Nice to here there are fish out there, I guess I just scare them off.

St. Brides lighthouse is just outside Newport. The actual place is St. Brides Wentlooge, you can park by the Lighthouse pub and it is a short walk up the bank onto the sea wall which gives comfortable fishing onto clean ground although you have to watch out for the block stone protecting the wall on your retrieve (I guess even more so if you are landing a fish but wouldn't know). You can normally fish about 2 hours either side of high tide from the sea wall as the tide goes out too far after that. Map of the area is here

http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.c...multimap.y=395

If you do go fishing here take care on the winding lanes on the way down, 4 local anglers crashed into a ditch on the way back a couple of weeks ago and died.

So, you've got some options on where to fish I just hope you have more success than me.

Re: The Knap beach Barry South Wales

Cheers for the info

Looking at the tides next week they seem to be 13m so is that to big for this area as I now higher up in the bristol channel it would be a nightmare

Re: The Knap beach Barry South Wales

Tides over this coming weekend are around the 10 metre mark ,much better then the biggies, the tide screams thro a couple of hours either side of top water on the 13`s ,makin in a bit streesful to hold bottom.

when down ogmore deeps the other night i caught 2 schoolie Bass 1 about 12 inches the other about 8 inches you can fish from the estuary or the beach but you got to be careful as it is a strong current seen a guy fly fishing in the surf caught a nice Bass
