Penarth Lady Helen fishing report 20-6-2005

Penarth Lady Helen fishing report - Well the day had come and I was setting sail from Penarth on the Lady Helen with mike the skipper

The idea for the day was to hit the banks for the rays and as we left the locks we were all looking forward to a great day out

We made are first mark on slack water and down went Sandeels, squid, mackerel and prawns both uptiding and downtiding

Straight away my rod was knocking and it was minutes before the first dogfish came up . Looking at the way the fish were feeding on slack water I thought to myself we were in for a stonking day once the tide turned

But as the tide started to turn so did the weather with white horses starting to cap ( mmm this was not forecast me thought ) and yes it got worse from a forecast of 3s it ended gusting 6s – god why cannot three different forecast get it right

Anyway back to the fishing

With the wind and waves becoming a problem we had to move inshore and the fishing died which was a great shame as the first hour or two was great fun and building for the rays to come on the feed

So with the weather going down hill we were forced to get in close to the shore line and find shelter and hence lack of fish

Hearing the Radio chatter all the Penarth boats were have the same day

So the boat got dogfish and conger but if the weather had been what was forecasted the day should have been a stonker , but hay that’s fishing

Thanks to mike and crew for trying there hardest to find the fish always thinking of some other mark to fish if it went slow and not giving a second though in up anchors to find them

I had a great day out – lack of fish is a shame but mother nature can turn thing on their heads . Had a lovely cold beer and a chat to end the day

Now thats what a monday should always be like - fishing not working

Shame about the fishing mate, but hey a bad days fishing beats a good day at work...especially on a monday!!

We must get out off the welsh coast for the Rays soon.

But yes s.wales is often over looked and holds some great fishing

Well if you two OLD men do get out soon let me and Shads kow and maybe we could tag along and see how fishing is meant to be done - well help Richard drink beer anyway !!
