Aberavon 28/01/12

Popped down to the local beach with K last night to take advantage of a break in the wind. It was very busy, possibly with peeps practising for the match today.
Headed down to the quiet area between Jackstones & the RNLI (J section) and fished from just before dark up to nearly high water (21:30).
Fished the carp rods, K with the trusty 30lb braid and a 3oz gripper on the end of a 2 up size 1 flapper, I had a 20lb crystal braid with a 1 up 1 down size 4 with a 2oz plain lead. Bait was rag from Dragon.

The fishing wasn't prollific, I had a whiting 1st cast and caught consistently, possibly needed more range as the bites arrived after a move up the beach. Whiting turned into 5 bearded rockling (handy for the hunt), then switched back to whiting before HW.

Just before High, as we were just in front of the rocks K had her 1st fish of the night, then was caught by a large surge of water that went behind her & left her shin deep in water wearing walking boots, so we packed up & headed home via a chippy.

Nice to be out on the beach at night again & points for the hunt

Good to get out and get a few fish in mate, nice one! never thought to use light gear on a carp rod in the sea, my carp gear has just gathered dust since I got into sea fishing.

Cheers Dave, I get my old river feeder rods out in the summer for standing in the surf & quite often take them flattie bashing in the winter when the wind allows.

Sounds good, I go down Cefn Sidan now and again in the summer, might give it a go, its normally good for a few flounders down there
