Cod & Codongers @ Penarth today .......

Met John @: Penarth today for a crack at the Mudfish. Wind was howling Westerly , over the top of the cliffs ,but as usual a nice flat sea at Penarth , sun blazing down on us too ,definate bonus was cod fishing in a t shirt in december ..

A good few fish turned out ,i managed to catch every strap Conger in the sea whilw John hauled out the cod (one in particular had a nasty "rash" on its flanks ,but swam off strongly ). I had to leave around lunch time , and left John too it , got a txt about an hour later ,John had had a cracking 6LB 2 OZ cod .

A cracking days Cod and Codonger fishing in the sunshine for team Drunken Dragons !!!!

A pretty gammy looking 3 3/4 lber was the second cod of the day

I cleaned up with every strap eel on the beach , all taking rag baits meant for cod

well done looks like a cracking day out! penarth never tried the mark how do you get to it ?

ive been seeing a few cod comming out with wounds like that , do you recon they are lamprey/hagfish marks?

if you have a look on a map you'll see penarth....look for lavernock point and then walk 20mins along the beach back to penarth direction....you'll arrive at the area we fished....quite rough mind.

dunno...it had them on both sides, so don't know if he had escaped a seal, of has been carrying the wound for ages...even back to last winter from a conger when it was smaller in the 1 - 2lb range.

didn't look like an ulcerated hag or lamprey to me.

its lovely on a westerly paul....

just don't fish it on anything bigger than 12m arrowsmiths or 11.5m easytide...or you will get wet feet.....

just be aware of the rock falls too.
