A big Blonde in the early hours of the day ,1 of 8 in a 2 1/2 hr session

Fished Monknash beach last night over low water , left the house around midnight ,and headed off into the darkness,got to the sand around 1.20am ,set up with sandeel and squid on 4/0 pennels ,banged both rods out as far as poss .

I had 1 pack of 10 sandeels and 10 squid,which i thought was plenty as you can only fish 1 down ,2 back at most ,due to the size of the tide and the speed it travels up and down the beach.

Around a hour before low the bites started ,missed the first one ,bait came back manged ,good sign i thougth ,then it went nuts for around 2 hours a fish a cast , a couple of smalleyeds to start ,around the begining of the flood ,had a cracking ratchet run,struck into it and game on a serious weight on the other end ,shaking its head ,10 mins later a cracking Blonde Ray of 12 13oz was at my feet ,as i`d been playing it the line on the second rod had dropped to the beach .So after weighing and a picture quickly returned the fish ,and brought in a 6 lb Small Eyed on the other rod. After that it was a fish a cast till i ran out of bait around 3.30.

8 Rays in total in around 2 1/2 hours ,plus lost a good one in the surf,as the swell sucked back and popped the hooks out ..5 Small Eyeds to 6lb ,and 3 Blondes to 12lb 13oz.

Best session of ray fishing i`ve ever had , a couple of hours of total chaos ,i got home at5 am ,a very happy camper ...

5 Small Eyed Rays to 6Lb

3 Blonde Rays 6lb 9oz, 8lb 2oz and the biggest a shore PB of 11lb 13oz

we have to fish there again....VERY VERY Soon....i have about 10 packs of sandeel that need using up!!!!

Gotta be done Chris ,that particular mark generaly fishes better on low water,big tides,and much better in darkness,as the water's pretty shallow. Add a 45 min walk each way and its not an easy place to fish.

i was dragged to this thread under false pretence that there would be a leggy blonde lol fantastic fishing Mike some great rays there we get a few blonds up in cardigan lovely fishing mate,,funny the beach i fish for them there is shallow and fishes well in the day nights are dead as a dodo i usualy fish it on the ebb and up for 3 hours
