Hollyhead Anglesea and brass plaques

Set of at 8 from brum to get to the lads in Telford ,we hadnt decide on a mark so thought we would just head there and see ,,anyway way it was going to be a bit of a sombre affair as one of our long time companions and fellow musician Micky had died the previous month (the joys of smoking ),was strange not having him between me and graham in the front of the van ,though in his honour we kept up the micky taking and banter ,,
Anyway we reached the island and decided to take a trip to winnies the tackle shop in holly head to pick up some worms and massive they were i had to fight one off as it attacked our other buddy Orin (micks son )..after a chat and looking at overnight venues weather and tides we decided on the break water and also thought it would be the place to put up the plaque we had brought for our mate as he loved the easy fishing there in the past ,,we arrived on the breaky it was a bit blowy so i decided on a bit of float work along with Derek our newbie graham stuck on a light ledger for up the wall and orin with his comedy rod at the other end ( will tell you bout rod later) we also set up the big gear for later hoping for rays and huss ,first in was Derek on wragg and on the float it was wrass small pollock and whiting a chuck small for us all except graham who on looking at the anaconda sized rags decided hed take his chance on squid ,,,1 hour had gone there was a shout from Orin i turned round to see his comedy rod nearly bent double lmao and it was bending that bad he couldnt actualy wind the magnificent wrass in that had chomped his bait graham had to hand line it up the wall i defy anyone to try break those fiber rods lol, after seeing the wrass graham relented and straped on a huge wragg and got off the mark with 5 wrass on the trot and a whiting and choruses of i told you so ,
As the night drew in i threw two running leads to the distance armed with ragg squid and eel resulting in a few whiting dogs pout ,same for derek and orin who was still a little worse for wear after his day before drinking session in Manchester he spent most the night asleep lol graham was into the dogs or is he going to the dogs lol ,,as the night drew to a close 4.00ish the wind got up more graham shouted for the drop net resulting in a beautifully coulord thornback ray of 7lb ,,Orin was next only to loose a big fish to a parted hook link, all in all with the small fish dogs ect 29 fish between us ,,,,was a great night and one our dear mate would have loved though i did have feeling though he was there with us
RIP Michael (banjo) Urquhart July 1946 to August 2011

A good session, and a fitting tribute to your deceased fishing buddy. Kind regards.
