| Ups and Downs but no fish. Went hound hunting between the domes at Aberthaw today. Dropped K off then headed to Bridgend to get a new floaty some crabs & emergency weights. Bad news.... floaties (SAS) are going up in price very soon, like today. Good news... got an old stock mark 6 at the old price, crabs were available & set off to watch the tide drop for a few hours as was early. Went to waters edge to get a feel for the place & setup rod, tested drag on reel with a very gentle tug & snapped the top ring. .With an hour & a quarter to fishing time it was back to the car for a trip to Barry, for a cheap new rod. Whilst in Barry, lad said he could stick a new ring on in 10 minutes, life saver. Any way trundled back to the waters edge & glue wasn't set yet. Chucked out regardless and straightened ring a bit then waited another 30 minutes before winding in with all gear intact but no bait on hook. Results for the session, No fish, No bait came back in, and 3 whole rigs didn't. Not sure what was getting snagged as rotten bottom was 10lb line with half hitches to weaken, main line was 18 or 25lb line depending on which spool was on. In fact rotten bottom didn't snap once either got everything or nothing. More rod problems on packing away(before rain), bottom 2 sections stuck together . Headed back to car projecting dark thoughts of placing offending silver rod on ground & driving car back & forth over it till it resembled mackarel feathers. Unsuprisingly it decided to separate quite easily when requested...... proving the power of positive thinking & taking your time.![]() Maybe I'll get another chance soon for a hound, but first some serious rig discussions need to take place. __________________ Spahill <:--- --- --- --- It was this big --- --- --- ---:> |

| Re: Ups and Downs but no fish. Unlucky Paul ,sounds like the crabs liked your crab bait today , it can be hit and miss at Aberthaw , might need another couple of calm days before they comeback close inshore , Sker or newton over low will give you a good chance of a hound ,a little less snaggy ,but not much. Tackle losses are par forthe course at aberthW ,as you said its all or nothing usually ...... __________________ Mike..
