Tasty fish returned unbattered

Celebrated bday this morning with a 30 minute walk to my new favourite venue. Was intending to fish the sand gulleys as the tide flooded by the river Neath.
Found a nice 3 foot sandbank witha sudden drop off that looked promising.
With plenty of time before the water arrived I chucked a couple of squid into the river using uptide tactics.
As soon as i had sat down after putting in the second rod the first started bouncing. My trusty 20 year + beachcaster was showing a good bite. As I picked it up I noticed the second was starting to nod.
Wound in (circle hook) on the old boy and felt the fish making a bid for freedom. Not an auspicious fight, but I could tell it wasn't just the weight coming in.
By the time I had landed it the second rod was stationary so took a photo, thought about lunch, then returned him to get a lot bigger



50.5 oz, or just over 3lb to those who can't do maths.... try asking Carol Vorderman for some lessons (she was on the news this morning ) if your missus will let you.

Carried on with the river till the gulley started to flood without anymore bites.
Wind was howling by this time & chucking a 6 oz lead 25 yards head on into the gale was causing no end of birdies/fluff ups with my multiplier.
Positioned baits just below the steep drop off from the sand bank & retired up the beach to the next bank, then waited for the tide.
And waited, and waited.
This neap tide wasn't quite big enough, allthough the gully filled nicely from the river the bank was barely covered by the tide at high.

Still a rapid wind assisted walk back to pick up K ended a good session.
I caught a fish which could have made a meal
