Blasted by the wind ,what a Raytastic day !!!!

Weather forecast was looking good ,winds dropping to a light westerly, small tide ,with high water mid afternoon . John and i decided another ray hunt was in order .

I got to the car park at Southerndown around 11 ,John was joining me a bit later after he finished work , as soon a i got out of the van ,i thought " here we go" ,the wind was howling , made my way upto the ledges at Witches Point , big swell running ,pushed along by a strong SW wind ,which aint too clever at Witches,thankfully the tide was small ,so made it just about safe to fish .

Baits in the water and a pleasant suprise ,no dogfish for ages , landed a small turbot ,and one "marlin" before John arrived around 1.30. He had that Oh My God look on his face , with good reason ,the tide was in full flood and waves had started to break over the ledges . Not long after John arriving,a cracking ratchet run ,resulted in a Small Eyed Ray of 5lb 8 oz for me. A few more dogs and ,for safety`s sake it was time to move over to the lower ledges.A good move really as around high water and for 4 hours down the fishing went nuts , we both had more dogs ,i managed another small turbot, and between us we landed a further 7 Small Eyeds ,my best a shore PB of 10lb 2 oz ,a 5lb 12 oz and a 2lber. Johns best 9lb 8oz , along with 7lb 2oz, 4lb 2oz and 3lb

An awesome days fishing in less than favorable conditions , we were definatly rewarded for the effort though.

An looking sea greeted us ,only fishable really as it was a smalll tide



A pair of Turbot ,the second one was especially gredy swallowing double sandeel and half a squid on 4/0 manta extras



Mumbles Marlin were out in reasonable numbers , John hoovering up 2 at a time



First rays of the day ,a 5lb 8oz female for me , 3lb "butterfly" for John



A shore personal best for me @ 10lb 2oz ,John`s best nudged doubles figures @9lb 8 oz



We both had a further 2 rays each , ranging from 2lb to 7lb 2 oz

Great days fishing. What direction does the ledges face? Were you fishing directly into a SW or did you have some shelter from the wind?
