Talking Oggy Oggy Oggy

well the big day came and not unsurpriseingly we were running a bit late, but we were away from rich's house by 8.20, tescos full brekkie , deisel and butties and on the M5 about 9, game on

and after a superb drive( soo glad we werent going south though, traffic was horrendous) pulled up at mikes in welsh wales at 11.05 ( only 5 mins later than planned )

quick coffee and it was off to
Ogmore
on the long anticipated ray quest

meeting paul in the carpark it was down and over onto the lunar landscape that is the rocks of ogmore, you cast onto clean but wind like a nutter to get gear back

mike decided to take point

i managed a small birdy ;-)

much later mike found the rig with a doggie on the end, used the rig again later and even more dogs

the other 3 all had had good old mumbles marlin whilst i was waiting , when at last a good bite and result
a 3lb s/e ray just what we were after

by now we were down onto the golden sands of ogmore

where we fished all the way down, for nowt
so decision made it was time to move
to the weirdest place i have ever fished

Ogmore Deeps

unfortunately my first opinion was the "anglers" litter, cans bottles, bait packets everywher, come on guys you carry the stuff there its lighter to carry the empties back , also all the ""anglers"" to the left hand end(east) who provided a lovely display of jetsomed bottles cans etc at end of eve. If that was our club you would not be weighing in in tne comp for littering!!! grrr
sorry rant over back to the venue

you stand on cracky old rocks 50 ft above the sea, overlooking what seems a tackle graveyard, but you cast onto sand and on the retrieve as the tide floods your gear sails above the rocks, and amazeingly no one lost any gear

now i will admit this place freaked me a fair bit to start with, its difficult terrain and the hieght is more than a tad scarey for a short fat guy as well, but funny enough as the water hot higher it didnt seem so bad( flooded to about 10gt below top yesterday

mike pointing back to the uk mainland

paul sparked up the barbie

and then managed a turbot

the local ladies came down, but we were there for fishing not fun

the ledges very quickly filled up as there were 3 competitions there
but as sun set we were expectant

but i hate to say it was just more dogs, and 2 whiteing
we as my welsh friend always says
"tried hard but failed easy"

so at 11.20 we departed with the tide now ebbing fast again

a good run home via coffee at mikes saw me snoreing like a trooper soon after 3

thanks a million to Mike and Paul for a great day, and the hotdogs, knowledge guidance etc
i have a feeling we will be back for the hounds and ray again

dave

Re: Oggy Oggy Oggy

Excellent read Dave and pics. Shame about the ladies and their nice woolen dresses getting a knock-back though. Nice one though, enjoyed it.

Re: Oggy Oggy Oggy

A really enjoyable day, despite the lack of "decent" fish & changeable weather.
Good to meet up with the Devonians again.

Re: Oggy Oggy Oggy

What a fantastic day. Shame about the lack of the target species, but hey, this was a mini forum meet, so what did I expect???? Good company and some absolutely stunning surrondings MORE than made up for that!

Paul, good to see you again. Thanks very much for the scran! T'was top notch mate! Mike, our guide for the day was all that could be asked for in a host. Coffee on arrival and departure and more knowledge than you can shake a proverbial stick at. I thought all that bad mouthing of John was a touch over the top though, I mean, it's not his fault he failed to get the pass now was it!! I am gonna need one of those pies next time we come up mate! Oh, and some fish would be nice as well please!!!

Thanks to Dave for doing the miles as well. Sorry I wasn't great company on the way back mate. The sneaky half hour with Dolly must've really taken it out of me!!
