| West Pier 19/4/11 Well decide to give the Pier a go.. again.... Got there about 4:30am. HT about 06:55 so a bit of time to go. From the off it was busy... woof after woof after woof. Doggie's galore.. lost count after a couple of hours. Had one that I think was a huss, different jaw shape and nose flaps. Tried my best to get a photo, but he didn't want to pose one little bit! It was a bit bigger too, probably 3-3.5lb, The rest were all 1.5 -2lb. ![]() Think this one is the Huss... I stand to be corrected???.. definately different to all the others ![]() There were a few unexpected visitors... ![]() ![]() They paddled right out into the bay, around the pier and back to the beach??? Lost??? Nice change from the gulls! Tried circle hooks today on one of the rigs, using squid and makkie, every one was in the sissors of the jaw! Have to try them again for something else, but quite impressed. What are your views on them??? All in all a great morning out in the sunshine, the first for a month or so! ![]() ![]() p.s. All the best for the ray's on Friday, wish I could make it, working 12hr nights all weekend... I'll be looking forward to the reports Steve |

| Re: West Pier 19/4/11 Nice photos and report there mate,as for circle hooks i use them a lot when sea fishing in Guinea Bissau and Senegal and swear by them but you do have to learn not to strike and let the fish hook themselves |

| Re: West Pier 19/4/11 Nice fishing Steve, what a cracking day to be out fishing ... Don't think the second one is a Huss, it looks like a jumbo dog, its has too many small spots to be a huss ,even small huss have large blotches . You cant really see the snout ,but the colouration doesn`t look right. Heres thea couple of piccies that show the snowt differance up close ,so hope this helps BULL HUSS.............................................. .................................................. .......... Lesser Spoted Dogfish Baby Bull Huss.... ![]() __________________ Mike.. | Re: West Pier 19/4/11 Hi Steve. Pretty certain that it is a decent doggie and not a Huss. As for circle hooks, my opinion of them is that they work well for larger species such as tope but are not much good for things like Bream in UK waters. I have tried them and I dont bother with them any more. If I thought they worked I would still be using them. __________________ Check my blog for a daily fishing forecast from Weymouth, Portland, Chesil Beach & Kimmeridge Bay. www.fishingtails.co.uk |
