A bit of a ray day at the White Light.

After fridays escapade at Southerndown ,John and i decided to give the White Light in Barry a bash ,as lots of the boats had been haveing rays close in and a couple of decent blonde rays had been landed recently ,so the ray hunt was back on, with a fresh vigor .

A huge tide wasn`t going to help ,but was fishable ,we arrived an hour after low and got set up , within 15 mins ,a clicking ratchet gave a sign of life ..a 3 lb thornback surfaced ,John set off down the rocky mountain that is the outer breakwater wall ,to land the fish,i followed him down for a quick picture. 20 mins later another good bite ,this time resulting in a 6lb 3 oz male Thornback for me , John did the honours again ....

At this point John muttered if i caught another ray he`d sit in the sun in his under pants ,when i had another bite his face lit up !!, this time only a "Mumbles Marlin" ,much to his relief .

We fished fresh baits hard for the next couple of hours ,to no avail except for a couple of reasonable whiting each and a last cast dog . The weather was baking hot ,with the heat dying away to a very pleasant warm evening . First time we`ve fished here ,and i think we`ll be back to see what other suprises the venue holds .

The White Light Breakwater from above , when you get there a grassy bank makes easy fishing over a mountain of huge boulders



The climb down to the water is big at low water ,as you can see with John at the bottom landing a ray,



A climb down to weight ,photograph and release is the easiest option, and less stress on the fish.....the bigger Thornback went 6lb 3 oz



A couple of decent whiting and a couple of "Mumbles Marlin " added abit of variety to the day

They just haven`t made it up as far as Barry yet Paul ,i`m sure a couple more weeks and they`ll be carpeting the place ....

great day to be out.

weather was boiling....my poor head today - i look like and englands glory match!!!!

and fair play you gave me a good spanking yesterday, i only managed a couple of whiting and missed a decent run faffing with the other rod but thats fishing.

might have to try and sneak out midweek!!!

There be monsters lurking in them rocks ..........big grey slimey ones ,luckily we didn't hook any.
