Whitewater ...Mission Acomplished .....

After a cracking day out Friday crewing ,i had a days fishing aboard Whitewater , with Andrew the skipper , Julian Lewis Jones who produces some cracking angling programmes for tv and a friend of his. After a flat calm day on friday anticipation was higgh ,but as usual Mr weatherman ,got it 200% WRONG !!!.the forecast 7mph SE winds ,the reality 20+SE winds ,making fishing in mid channel very very lumpy, we stuck it out for a couple of hours and had a few Spurdogs ,my best one around 8LB and the plague of dogfish continued. AS slack water approcahed ,the boat became a bucking bronco ,so it was time to move inshore for a bit of shelter ,and see if we could pick up a ray or 2 . Tucked in close to Monknash , the onslaught of dogfish continued , i mannaged to weedle thro and boat a Small Eyed Ray of 5LB ,and a Small tope around 7 lb.

The weather backed off in the afternoon ,and we managed an hour or so further offshore ,the dog plague followed us ,but Julian managed to sneek out a cracking PB 13lb Common Smoothound .

All in all a cracking day after a lumpy start , with some good points ,and 3 more species towards the 50 fish challenge.Got home ,swapped the boat gear ,for the shore stuff and met John down at Ogmore ,wwhere he was trying for an early ray ,and the dog fest contiued, he`ll pop up a report about that later ,but he was in the species hunt points too ..

Spurdog and Small Eyed Ray

A suprise early Tope ,and a cracking PB smoothound for Julian.

Re: Whitewater ...Mission Acomplished .....

Well done that man, some nice fish and photos there, shame it was not as calm as you had hoped but still a good day out and nice report mate,
One of these days i will get to that beautiful Welsh coast of yours and try a few days fishing,i did try last year to fish at Milford Haven but the skipper rang up the night before and said it was too lumpy so i then booked a days fishing on the Thames estuary because its a lot nearer home and that got cancelled so re booked for 3 weeks later and that got cancelled too (bloody weather) so at the grand old age of 46 my only sea fishing trip in the UK was over 20 years ago down at Peace haven and then after 1/2 a day the skipper returned early because the weather turned nasty,I am starting to wonder if i am just jinxed when it comes to salt water angling in the UK lol

Don`t worry mate it`s not just you, I have STILL yet to get out on a boat!!! I`ve had 6 trips cancelled on me. 5 due to weather and then 1 due to being let down for numbers on the day. I hae just given up hope of getting out now.

Well done Mike cracking days fishing there mate, typical of the weather man to get it wrong again!!!!
