Spring Codling run continues @ The Ranny .....

Had a call of a friend who runs a charter boat out of Penarth on Sunday evening ,saying he had a bit of worm left from a trip ,that i could have if i wanted it .So it would have been rude not to have sopoped down monday morning to collect it ,YeeeHaaaaa !!!...nearly 2lb of fresh dug lug, straight into the bait fridge .

Decided to fish the Ranny this afternoon ,got down for 1 pm fished 4 hours up ,and an hour back before running out of bait .used 2/0 pennels and large baits to try to avoid the "fishfingers", worked pretty well landed 7 codling from about 1/2lb to just under 3lb ,and a suprise "Mumbles Marlin" which are virtually unheard off of the beaches around Penarth. All the cod coughed shore crabs up. The baits were either stripped clean by crabs ,or came back with a fish hanging on to them, a cracking few hours all in all.....

Pretty misty miserable looking ranny to start with ..........

A nice tump of FREE fresh lug ,fished on 2/0 pennels to avoid "fishfinger" codling

First casts produced a 1/2lb and a slightly better fish about a 1 3/4lb

Soon followed by a better codling ,just under 3lb and a "Mumbles Marlin"

Several more Codling soon followed ,gulping down the big baits ...

Last cast on both rods produced a fishfinger ,and a decent codling around 3 lb

Well done Mike, I notice you had the beach shelter up as well.... a rarity on the beaches in S Wales.

You can @ The ranny on a small tide ,the water doesn`t go racing in and out too far ,it was tipping down with rain when i got there ,cleared up later thankfully
