Mumbles Marlin saves the day @ Monknash.

Huge tides in the Bristol channel this weekend ,ruled out fishing the Cardiff/Penarth areas at high water ,so decided to join Mr & Mrs Spahill @ Monknash to fish the tide down and back up an hour or so. Pauls car was the only other car there when i arrived , so a nice empty beach looked on the cards. Low water was around 12.25 , so arrived just before 9 ,and set of on the route march to the beach !!!.

Fished squid and sandeel baits , fishing was very slow , a solitary Mumbles Marlin saved the day about an hour into the flood , left shortly afterwards as the tide was racing in.....Paul had a couple of fish and i`m sure he`ll pop a report on later .

To get to Monknash you leave the car park ,and walk down the road to a gate ,which leads you in to the "haunted wood " ( spookey at night !)...a long walk thro the wood is great on the way down.

As you come out of the wood you get a glimpse of the sea ,in the distance ....eventually you get to the beach !

Turn right ,over the rough stuff and about another 1/4 of a mile and your on the beach ,far enough along to be fishing clean ground ,looking back the "v" in the cliff is where you walk onto the beach.

Paul and Karen were fishing to my right ......... The blank saving Mumbles Marlin was a welcome sight after 4 hours ...

Re: Mumbles Marlin saves the day @ Monknash.

Another glorious day weatherwise, not great for fishing... but it is still early in the year.
Must say Mikes photos are stunning, that beach is well worth the walk & so peacefull.
I managed to snaffle a couple of little turbot. this being the only photo as the camera was set to movies for the earlier shots.

Both fish fell to lengths mackeral delivered by a Dvice.
Karens larger baits went untouched. Sandeel was also untouched.

The tide was so big some previously unknown rocks were uncovered. Managed to find 5 weights to add to my collection and bundled all the line/leader into a bag & binned it.

Super report Mike. Monknash is one of those places I'd heard about but had no idea how to get to.
