| Back on the Cod !!!! Sully Island 6 March Met up with John this morning in the Captains Wife car park at Sully .Our chosen venue for the day Sully Island over the low water period. The island is cut off from the mainland for approx 6 hours over high water .We arrived early ,and waited for the causeway to uncover as we went across ,to ensure we got a good spot ,as it turned out only 1 other angler braved the conditions ,weather man gave sunshine and light Easterly winds ,it was overcast and blowing a stiff breeze ,and was a tad chilly........ Sully Island across the water !.....and looking back to the land as we crossed   Chosen mark for the day is called the "Monkey Pole", a pretty steep climb down ,and a huge mountain on the way back   Once your at sea level its a pretty hostile mark ,very snaggy ,rotton bottoms are a must ,as a rocky ledge lurks around 30 yds out ...   Gemini rotten links work a treat ,baits for the day ,lug,rag ,squid and razor fish ,fished on pulley pennels   John was first into a fish ,within 15 mins ,a cod "fishfinger" ,shortly followed with a 1 1/2 lb codling for me   After that it was fish ,after fish after fish ..........     A suprise 4lb Thornback Ray for John ,and a last cast 3lb codling .....   Scores on the doors at the end ,John 7 Codling ,best 3 lb ,and myself 6 Codling ,best 2 3/4 lb .Best days shore fishing this year so far ,and a suprise ray into the bargain....... View of the walk back from the top ,and a well deserved Pironi to celebrate a cracking days fishing   So much for ! THE FISH BITE THE LEAST , WHEN THE WINDS IN THE EAST !!!! Sully Island 6 March was a great session and good to get out to the exposed...off the beaten track mark that we like. only sour note was the wind....i hate fishing in strong..straight down your throat...constant eyes streaming, hook length blowing wind that brings out a tempoary terrets in me!!! it was blowing pennels off the bait clips and ni on impossible to keep in touch with the lead after it had hit the water..... must admit i was like victor meldrew on acid...will have to have another session there soon as the codling we were getting were definatley spring "green backs" so will be around for a while....also the chance of some really good 20lb-30lb plus eals off there in the summer so will be back for them to Mikes disgust __________________ 2012 targets - 180 yard measured cast, 10lb bull huss, 12lb blonde, 10lb hound, 8lb small eyed, spotted ray any size |
