| Mumbles 2/3 Hi All Had a day at Mumbles pier, got there around 9.30, bait was squid, salted lug, mackeral and harbour rag. set up on the right had side casting straight out. Lots of little knocks from the off, nothing taking though. Two and three hook flappers with size 1 and 2 hooks. Hooks came back polished! Not a trace of bait left.. guessing the crabs are back! It was not until 12:30ish that a steady knock resulted in a skinny whiting, unhooked and back in. Went to cast and had the birdie from hell (wasn't even trying hard!! Honest!). Down to one rod while I put another reel on. Another knock resulted in a dab. ![]() Had another one a bit later, and another whiting, smaller but not so skinny! Had a rod bending knock, that I struck into and thought this is it! The big one! Five or six turns of the reel later it was gone... didn't even get to see the leader! Some days you win... Doh!! Anyway finished off with a Mumbles marlin! Doggie, saying that it looked more like a bull huss?? No picture (must remember to put batteries in tackle box!) What's the main differences between them? A good day out anyway. Steve ![]() |

| Re: Mumbles 2/3 Sometimes they look a bit similar especially the juvenile ones. Main difference is the larger sized spots on Bull Huss or Great Spotted Dogfish. If you turn the fish over and look at the nasal flaps you will find that on dogfish it looks like they almost have a single nasal flap with only a small section of skin joining the two, on a Huss the flaps are more distinct.
