| The ray hunt continues @ Witches point With a small tide and the weather forecast giving northerly winds decreaseing thro the day John and i ,decided to give the early ray hunt another bash at Witches Point (Southerndown) .He arranged to meet in the car park @ 9.30, i got there first ,and suprise suprise ,the weather man dropped the ball again ,a howling westerly wind !...John arrived shortly afterwards ,we had a chat and decided to trust the forecast ,that the wind would drop off and go northerly ......The beach @ southerndown ,showing a lively surf , witches point over to the left, with a heavy surf runing inshore After the 20 min uphill marathon ,we got set up on the ledges ,with a pretty big swell, only good thing ,we were able to tuck in under the rock face out of the wind Baits for the day ...Bluey,Sandeel,and Squid ....presented on pennel pulley rigs We fished 4 up and 2 down ,the result ....absolutly nothing ![]() ![]() ....every bait came back in untouched ,not our day obviously .......Still a bad days fishing is better than a good days TV,a nd we`ll be back nxt week in search of an early ray AGAIN !!!!! Some pretty spectacular surroundings ,make it all worth while too..... Here`s a video summary of the climb !!, complete with heavy breathing ,as i`m not getting any younger and need to find a portable oxygen tent, and really need to carry fewer packs of sarnies !!! Gives an idea of the strong breeze tho !!! .. __________________ Mike.. | Re: The ray hunt continues @ Witches point we'll get them...bored of codling!!!! great pics again, Why do pics never do justice to the size of the swell!!! before anyone reading this from south wales runs off to the spot....always check the tide, wind and swell....witches point will kill ye!!! we only fished it today as the tide was so small being 9.5m and the wind had more northerly than westerly......don't even think about the place in a south westerly ...on a bigger tide you may have a rouge wave sucking straight up the ledges....if in doubt pm me or mike and we'll tell you if we would fish it. next weekend we'll get one....honest ![]() ![]() john __________________ 2012 targets - 180 yard measured cast, 10lb bull huss, 12lb blonde, 10lb hound, 8lb small eyed, spotted ray any size |

| Re: The ray hunt continues @ Witches point Unlucky gents, looks horrible in the wet & you took the long route rather than straight up, guess that grass is impossible when it's slippy. __________________ Spahill <:--- --- --- --- It was this big --- --- --- ---:> |

Double sandeel topped and tailed to start, one mounted on each hook ........ Tend to start with 2 sandeels ,but you can start with the squid mounted to the hooks and then whip on the sandeel if you prefer to ,same goes for bluey and mackerel. Double sandeel ,whipped on..... you can add whole small squid or half a big one whipped on to make a nice slimline bait for casting. __________________ Mike..
