| Monknash 19 Feb in search of an early ray or two.. Myself ,John (Lazyhooker) and Paul (Spahill), met up in the car park at Monknash this morning to see if we could eek out an early small eyed ray or two. John took "tackle tramping" to a new level with "gary glitter" style silver tape plugging the leak in his waders ! A quick road test of the new "open style" beach shelter and it was time to get on with fishing .   There had been some reports of the odd ray being caught a couple of miles further along the coast at Witches Point.The massive tide and predicted ground swells ,would have made Witches extremely dangerous ,so we plumped on Monknash over low water ,as the Nash sand bar would take the swells away as the tide ebbed . Its a moster of a walk ,we got onto the beach around 9.45, and discovered the new style open beach shelter. Another trek over the ruff stuff,along the beach foll0wed to our chosen fishing spot on the clean ground about 1/4 mile along the beach   Weather varied from overcast first thing ,to bright sunshine later on.   The tide was racing out ,so a rebait and move closer to the surf every 20 mins of so ,was just right ....Baits used on the day squid ,bluey and sandeels fished on pennel pulley rigs   Unfortunatly our gamble on an early ray didnt pay off ,about 6 weeks too early really ,Paul pulled out the skiniest Whiting in the sea ,John and i blanked    Just as we were packing up the fog decended , the trek back up the hill thro "the haunted" wood was slippy to say the least All in all ,a cracking day ,pretty good weather and cracking company ,with a bit of friendly banter as usual .. __________________ Mike..
