Mumbles Pier ....The fish came out to play for Team Drunken Dragons .

John and i were looking forward to a boat trip out to some mid channel deep water marks in search of Spurdogs and Congers ,the "fresh" SW winds ,knocked that idea on the head ,so a rethink was needed ,where could we go to hide from the wind ? After mulling it over we decided to have a dangle at Mumbles Pier ,to see if we could tease out a couple of fish for the species hunt .Its fishable at any state of the tide ,which is handy ,but can be packed with anglers on a good day.

Got over to Johns ,and we were off via the tackle shop for bait,arrived around 9.30 ,a stiff Sw breeze blowing ,but the pier faces NE so is fairly sheltered by the headland behind. Result ,not a soul in sight ! ,we had the place to ourselves .Fished over on the left side of the end platform ,as that side was the most sheltered .

Mumbles Pier form the sea front , tis a long walk to the end !!




We fished on the left hand side of the end platform ,the Mumbles lifeboat station is in the background .




Tackle for the scratching rigs ,size 2 hooks ,baits ...Rag,Lug ,Squid & Mackerel......All quiet for the first half hour ,when we were pelted by a hail storm ,followed by rain showers


First bite to me YES !!,result a starfish,second bite a Crab !!!!,not a good start !!




John`s first nibble resulted in the first Mumbles Marlin of the day ,quickly folowed by another and another and a whiting



From then on it was constant action, amongst the Dogs ,we had Whiting , Dabs , Poor Cod ,Codling ,best whiting 1lb 2 oz to John.







Fishing was constant all day ,had 60+ fish through the day ,we both stopped counting after 2 dozen dogs each , a dozen or so whiting , 10 dabs ,a Poor Cod ,and Codling. All in all a cracking days fishing ,some points for the species hunt ,fished till 4.45 when the pier closed .

Cutest fish of the day ,was a "mini" Doggie ,who curled up for a snooze ,Sight of the day was this awesome rainbow ...

Must have been a bit scary after 2 of my 5 predictions came true straight away .

I did mention it to Mike....through gritted teeth!!!!!

was quiet for the first hour then went busy all day finishing in conditions that were like a summers evening...you wouldn't believe the changes from hour to hour of the weather.
