50 Species in 12 months .....

After reading an article in one of the monthly sea angling magazines ,i decided to give the 50 species in 12 months challenge a go .I`m under no illusions that i`ll get anywhere near the magic 50 species ,but hopefully get out fishing a lot more ,using a lot of differant tactics and methods ,to try and get close to the magic number 50. !!!!

If you look at it as purely numbers then its its just over 4.16 species a month and sounds a doddle surely !!

Another goal is to avoid 50 blanks in 12 months !!!!!

January

No point in hanging around ,straight down to Penarth on the 1st , species No1 in the bag ........



Jan 2nd 1st blank of the year @ Swanbridge (nice view tho )




Couple more beach trips and a boat outing produced plenty of cod ,but no other species ......

Jan14th Species No3 ..Bass



Jan16th species No3 ...5 Bearded Rockling



Headed off to the gower a few days later and a few whiting and flounder ,caught on Oxwich beach ,on an evening when the sand was frozen,and frost on our jackets

Jan 21 Species No4 & 5 Flounder /Whiting




So Januarys done , and 5 species in the bag , the hunt continues .....

well done mike,sounds intriguing,
a challenge definately,i think it will get tougher once the more common species have been caught
is it just sea fish you are after mate ?

Yes, just sea fish ,as you say once the common stuff is in the bag ,gonna get interesting , some micro angling for mini species coming up i think ,should be fun...

gill net!!!!! the way were going he needs a stick of dynamite....took 4 sessions to get a whiting and we staill aint had a pout!!!

I had but one blank last year - in the so called 'best' venue i fished .. if i blanked more than 6 trips i would take up knitting !
50 species usually involves atleast 25 mini species , something i just can't get my head around ..
