West Pier Thought I'd try my luck at the west pier this morning, got there at 5am, set up a bass rod with a small mutiplier and some braid. Been meaning to try a braid on a multiplier for a while (thanks Scottish for the advice). Anyway, cast some lug into the surf to see if there were any bass there. Only in 2 minutes and a schoolie took the bait. ![]() Had a couple more bites but missed. As it got lighter it died off. Tried the river side, only had one bite and missed... doh! There were some guys right on the end that had a small turbot and gurnard, but apart from that nout else. May try somewhere else tomorrow. Steve ![]()

Re: West Pier Nice one. Does that lead not get caught up in all the weed?

Re: West Pier It does sometimes, but I was casting on to sand today so no real problems.

Re: West Pier Ahh right! I'd love a rattle at sea fishing! How do you indicate when you're getting a bite then?

Re: West Pier It's indicated through the rod tip, you see it move, it can be anything from a slow nod to a sharp jerk.

Re: West Pier Same idea as quiver tipping then! How far out do you cast?

Re: West Pier It depends on the conditions, today was probably 20-30 yards from the shore, in the midst of the breaking waves.

Re: West Pier Well done Stevey. Got to love braid for bite detection. I've fished mono alongside it & the braid has won every time. __________________ Spahill <:--- --- --- --- It was this big --- --- --- ---:>
