| Oxwich 22/6/10 The original plan was to take the dogs to the beach for a day to let them have a run around - then it turned into a take a fishing rod or two along & stand in the surf fishing light for Bass / GG's / flatties. K liked this idea more so the dogs were left at home so we could both fish. Went via Gowerton to pick up a few maddies & found that the parking charge had risen 20% - now £3 for the whole day which is still pretty good though would prefer nothing .Less groundswell than expected so no real surf at all but we walked along to the rivermouth to get away from most other beach users. What was there that was unexpected was the odd jelly fish. Setup the two rods (13ft river feeder) 4 - 6lb line (one using braid) and a 1oz running ledger to flouro hooklength & size 6 hook. Waded out to knee depth & started fishing feeling for bites whilst K watched from shore (before retiring to read a book). the jellyfish were washing past occasionaly - saucer to tea plate size up to an inch thick with 4 pink circles for decoration. then a bright cobalt blue one eating a lump of weed went past. No bites from the fish then a sharp stab on the leg OUCH. Waded back into shore & removed the sting using filleting knife & foreceps. Time to fish from the shore - chucked out both rods after carefully wading out & back for a bit of distance & a bite straight away - just a little schoolie but he was most welcome. K came down for a visit from her sheltering from the cool breeze & picked up another schoolie straight away. we then counted 13 jellyfish immediatley in front of us. K retired gracefully back to ray (sun variety) catching. so I had a wade for another 30 mins - the further I went out the less jellies I saw, but no more bites so I went back up the beach to dry off. Guessing the wind direction & shape of the beach makes a usually good fishing spot conducive to collecting Jellies as on the walk back the closer to the shelter of Oxwich head we got the less Jellies were washed up. A nice sunburning if slightly chilly day in the wind with a fish each thrown in. Football today - Come on England - play with some passion - I'd rather you went out on full out attack trying to score rather than wimp out with a poor draw. Dog Walking tomorrow - perhaps Swansea with some worm digging thrown in ![]() __________________ Spahill <:--- --- --- --- It was this big --- --- --- ---:> |
